Emo Makeup

Emo makeup has similarities to both punk and Goth makeup, but it is best distinguished by its focus on the eyes. Emo makeup can be worn by both boys and girls and combines the Goth darkness with amusing childlike touches like colorful glitter, hearts or stars.

How to Apply Emo Makeup

One easy emo make up look can be created by

first powdering the face to make it appear pale. Next apply mascara so if you get any clumps or splotches you can clean them up without messing up the artistic part of the makeup. Apply dark eyeliner all around both the upper and lower eyelids. Liquid eyeliner is easiest to use for precision, and although black works well, other dark colors such as midnight blue, forest green or charcoal grey add a nice touch.

After the eyeliner is applied around,

use a glittery eye shadow in a contrasting color (such as silver with blue eyeliner or pink with grey eyeliner) and apply from the lash line up to the eyebrow, as well as under the lower lashes. Then use the eyeliner to create designs on the sides of the eyes. Flowers and exaggerated cats' eye shapes are popular emo makeup choices. Add enough mascara.

Finish the face with a bold but sheer lip color such as deep red or lilac lip gloss. This will add balance to the face without refocusing on the lips. Blush is not recommended for use with emo makeup, as it detracts attention from the eyes. Finally, "set" the emo makeup by spraying it with a light mist of water to make it last longer.
